“Dreams can come true….If we have the courage to pursue them -Walt Disney”
On being crowned as the Rubaru Mr.India International, 2017 on 27th August, 2017 in an event at Andheri, Mumbai, we spoke to him around his pre-occupied interview schedule, with an assurance that our questions were a little different from the others.
In our exclusive interview, find out how Mr.India International, 2017 Darasing Khurana, inspires many to follow their dreams:
Q: Congratulations on winning the title Rubaru Mr. India International 2017, to begin with, who has been your role model/ inspiration? Where did it all start ?
A: Thank you very much; I don’t really have ONE person that I look up to, I believe every person who I have met, has taught me something. I try picking up at least one positive habit of each person I come across. So I believe each one of them has inspired me in some or the other way.
Well, I had enrolled myself for few local pageants that were organised when I was a kid. I won my First pageant ‘Mr. parbhani’ at the age of 14, and becoming Mr. India was a dream since then.
Q: Interesting! How did modeling happen to you?
A: I did my schooling in Prabhani till my tenth grade. I did my HSC in Symbiosis college of Arts and Commerce, Pune. I enrolled for Graduation in HR College of Commerce & Economics, Mumbai. College fests gave me good exposure to explore my talent in dance, acting, and modeling. College management appreciates new talents and also promotes them to suitable platforms. Hence, I got my first exposure into modeling from College fests.
Q: How does it feel to be the most eligible bachelor after winning the title, Mr. India International, 2017?
A: I am humbled that I have been given this wonderful opportunity to represent my nation at the 12th edition of Mister International contest happening in the next few months. I feel responsible now; earlier it was self-exploration now I have to represent my country on an International Platform; and contest alongside many other models from around the world.
I would like to thank Rubaru Mister India Organization for seeing the potential in me and believing in me that I would do justice to the title. I am determined to give my best and will surely give my best. I aim to bag the title to make my country proud.
Q: Share us your journey from a freelance model, entrepreneur fashion consultant to an international pageant title holder?
A: The journey has been interesting and adventurous. Exploring more about oneself is a continuous process. I have been fortunate to be taking up internships at every stage of my life. It really helps understand what you are interested in.
To begin with during my graduation days, I took a three month internship at Lowe Lintas as an Executive, post my internship I realized it is not what I wish to do. Next was Siyaram as a Advertising and marketing executive, later switching to one of the leading news papers, I realized there is more that can be explored so I took up my next internship with a PR agency and worked on project Tarak Mehta ka ulta chashma, again it was difficult to adjust the professional settlement.
Q: when did you step up as a Fashion Consultant?
I wanted to do MBA from a renowned institute, every good institute required me to have a minimum work experience of 2 years. I therefore decided to work on a startup and launched a wedding filming company with my partners at the age of 21. This experience really helped me get admission in Narsee Monjee Institute of management studies (NMIMS) Mumbai.
While I was doing my MBA, a friend of mine always said that I would excel as a fashion consultant. It was then I assisted a fashion consultant and I was fortunate enough to work with a renowned personalty, this was my forte and I worked hard to understand the fashion world. Hence, modeling happened. It took me a while to understand the all over aspect.
Q: What are the preparations you are taking?
A: There are lot of preparations that I will be starting with, to name a few, I will be focusing more on my health and diet, not to miss my enduring exercise routine with my trainer, I am also going to focus more on my grooming. Not to forget, I have been associated with NGO’s for benefit of the society even before I won the title Mr. India 2017, but yes after winning the title I have an added responsibility towards my people and society. I don’t believe a person Should get involved in any kind of social services or do welfare when he/she is getting benefits out of it. It’s necessary for every human being to contribute to the society in whatever way they can. I would want to pick up causes like Anti-Depression and address more concern like “Blue Whale Game ” which is ruining the youth and have resulted in deaths. Last but not the least, there are more welfare services that I’m keen on, which will benefit all the people of different age groups around the world.
Q: What next?
A: For now the major focus remains preparing and winning the pageant and making my country proud. I have always believed in keeping my targets close to achievable.
Q: Any quote that has profound impact on you?
A: The College where I completed my graduation, H.R.College of commerce and economics, our Principal Dr. Mrs Indu Shahani gave me this GURU mantra
“Focus on your Academics and you will walk the red carpet rest of your life”.
I am fortunate that she chose me to forward the mantra her father had shared it with her.
This inspired me to complete my education before stepping into the world of glamour and has been my mantra till date.
Q: How would you inspire the upcoming models looking to win such a prestigious title?
A: Modeling is the career for the people with an overall package of good looks, intelligence, well grooming, communication skills and highlighting the strengths and working upon the areas to-be-strengthened. Keep working and exploring and don’t stop dreaming.
There is scope of improvement whenever you want to start afresh in any stage, at any age. The determination and positive approach is all needed; and of course small amount of luck and lots of Blessings from your parents who standby you against all odds.
Q : Any message to your readers?
Improvements(big or small) on a day-to-day basis are the key to incredible long term results. When you dare to dream and you can’t let go of, trust your instincts & pursue it. But remember: real dreams take hard work, they take patience, and sometimes they require you to dig down very deep. Be sure you’re willing to do that. If you make up your mind to achieve it; nothing in the world can stop you to live your dreams!!
It was a pleasure talking to a humble soul like Darasing Khurana, a rare gem, waiting to see the light of success.
